Dickie "Be-Bop" Harrell was just 15 years old when he began playing with Gene Vincent. In his short career (just over a year and a half) as a Blue Cap, Dickie established himself as a rock 'n' roll legend. Along with Gene and the Caps, Dickie has inspired countless bands and artists including a young Slim Jim Phantom. Dickie was even partly responsible for Jim's stand-up style of playing (photo of the Blue Caps left shows the drummer standing up with the rest of the band). The hit record Be-Bop-A-Lula, perhaps epitomising the Blue Caps raunchy rockabilly sound, is driven by Dickie's classy use of brushes (instead of drumsticks).

It is a privilege to add Dickie to our Fans of Phantom page, we are certainly big fans of "Be-Bop", a fine drummer and great guy.
